MMA fighter and UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey recently knocked out Brazilian opponent Bethe Correia in 34 seconds, making her once again the undisputed queen of the cage. In celebration of her most recent victory, let’s look at her best fitness tips to lead to healthy and fast weight loss:
Find a Mentally-Challenging Workout
“I’m challenged mentally in the gym every day, learning new strikes and kicks and submissions. You have to find something you enjoy. I run from my car to the gym because I love it and I’m excited to be there,” the fighter says.
Work With the Right Training Partner
Want a training partner? Rousey says find one who leaves his or her ego at the door.
“It’s very dangerous to train with people who are trying to ‘win’ practice,” she says. “I purposefully put myself in bad positions, and if I don’t have someone tapping me out when I’m grappling or if I don’t get thrown once the whole day, it means I didn’t push myself to places where I’m uncomfortable. I seek out those places in training. I can’t be put in a competitive setting when it’s not appropriate.”
Develop a Healthy Relationship With Food…and Your Body
“It took a lot of time to develop a healthier relationship with food and with my weight” Rousey has said. “My mind was backward. I thought I wanted my body to look a certain way so I could be happy. But it got to the point where I didn’t feel I looked good at 135 pounds, the weight that qualifies me for the weight class that I fight in. Now I only try to maintain my fighting weight for a couple hours a year — right before weigh-ins. Afterward, I maintain a weight where I’m not starving or feeling weak, which makes me happier.”
