As wonderful as the holiday season is, it’s also a time when high-fat and high-sugar foods abound. If you recently started taking Phentermine 37.5mg for quick weight loss and are among the many individuals concerned about gaining “holiday weight,” learn why experts say you shouldn’t worry.

Holiday Weight Gain is Normal

Social distancing has meant fewer holiday events this year.

“In most years, I feel like we gain weight over the holidays because we’re usually going to more parties, we’re surrounded by food, you might get gifts or cookies or chocolate, we’re super stressed running around getting people’s gifts, and we’re not going to be taking care of ourselves,” says psychologist Deborah Balfanz, PhD.

Dr. Balfanz notes that the fear of holiday weight gain stems from fearing judgements about appearance, when the reality is most people gain about one pound between November and January.

What to Do About “Feeling Guilty”

Instead of beating yourself up about holiday food choices, Dr. Balfanz emphasizes showing yourself compassion and kindness, as “shaming yourself is literally the worst thing you can do.” Her words are especially true in light of all that has occurred in 2020.

“This is not the time out of the entire year to stress about food and gaining weight, because this is the time when everybody is concentrating on showing love and receiving love, and being grateful for our lives,” she says. “That should be of more importance than what we’re going to look like and if we’re going to gain weight.”

Dr. Balfanz recommends healthy practices such as expressing gratitude for food and really savoring it, including chewing food about 20 times before swallowing. She also suggests exercise and meditation to help maintain a healthy mindset.
