Fast food is often one of the waistline’s biggest enemies. It is full of saturated and trans fats, as well as sodium and sugar to injure your Phentermine 37.5 mg efforts. A new study the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found that while fast food options have increased over the last 30 years, portions are larger than ever. These portions contain more salt and plenty of calories to impede weight loss. The study looked at fast food trends from 1986 to 2016.

The Obesity Problem

Fast food continues to play a significant role in the obesity epidemic that has plagued the United States.

“Our study offers some insights on how fast food may be helping to fuel the continuing problem of obesity and related chronic conditions in the United States. Despite the vast number of choices offered at fast-food restaurants, some of which are healthier than others, the calories, portion sizes, and sodium content overall have worsened (increased) over time and remain high,” said lead investigator Megan A. McCrory, PhD, Department of Health Sciences, Sargent College, Boston University, Boston, MA.

One fast food entree with a side features up to 40% of a person’s daily 2,000 calorie intake.

“Given the popularity of fast food, our study highlights one of the changes in our food environment that is likely part of the reason for the increase in obesity and related chronic conditions over the past several decades, which are now among the main causes of death in the US.”

Finding A Better Way

Chain restaurants will hopefully start making healthier ingredient choices. People can also simply refrain from eating fast food except for the occasional indulgence.

“We need to find better ways to help people consume fewer calories and sodium at fast-food restaurants. The requirement that chain restaurants display calories on their menus is a start. We would like to see more changes, such as restaurants offering smaller portions at a proportional prices,” McCrory remarked.
