According to a new study by the European Society of Cardiology, couples who make the choice to lose weight together do better than those in relationships to attempt weight loss alone. Take a moment to learn about this study as part of your continuing Phentermine 37.5mg-driven weight loss education.
Joint Effort
Weight loss is essential to heart attack survivors, and more successful when the partner of the individual who had a heart attack starts a diet and exercise program with them.
“Lifestyle improvement after a heart attack is a crucial part of preventing repeat events,” said study author Ms. Lotte Verweij, a registered nurse and PhD student at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands said during a presentation at ESC Congress 2020. “Our study shows that when spouses join the effort to change habits, patients have a better chance of becoming healthier — particularly when it comes to losing weight.
If partners contribute to adopting healthy habits, it could become an important recommendation to avoid recurrent heart attacks,” she added.
Comparable Lifestyles
Since couples often eat similar foods and activity habits, it is usually significantly easier to shed weight together.
“Couples often have comparable lifestyles and changing habits is difficult when only one person is making the effort,” said Verweji. “Practical issues come into play, such as grocery shopping, but also psychological challenges, where a supportive partner may help maintain motivation.”
Verweij noted no significant changes in terms of partner smoking habits.
“These lifestyle issues might be more subject to individual motivation and persistence, but this hypothesis needs more investigation,” she said.
Working out with “a buddy” has long been a weight loss recommendation, and now has more science to back it up.
