Study: HIIT May Treat & Prevent Cognitive Dysfunction In Obese Individuals

A new study from Florida Atlantic University has found a potential strategy for preventing and treating cognitive dysfunction among obese people: high intensity interval training. Take a moment to learn about this HIIT study as part of your commitment to your Phentermine 37.5 mg-based weight loss program.

Obesity & Brain Health

Obesity is associated with higher risk of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disease/condition issues because it lowers the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This protein protects and nourishes neurons, or nerve cells, to keep the brain healthy.

The study, which was published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine, found BDNF response to be greater in the brains of obese individuals who performed HIIT compared to a more moderate exercise regimen.

Both Timely & Effective

HIIT is believed to provide obese people with the perfect exercise strategy.

"High-intensity interval exercise is a time-efficient strategy with similar or superior physiological benefits that promotes the expression of a growth factor typically associated with brain health, yet that appears to be down regulated in obesity," said Chun-Jung (Phil) Huang, Ph.D., lead author and an associate professor in the Exercise Biochemistry Laboratory, Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion, in FAU's College of Education. "The relative simplicity and efficacy of high-intensity interval exercise supports its use as a preventive measure and as an intervention to combat obesity and other chronic disease conditions."

According to the Center for Disease Control, 93.3 million Americans were classified as obese in 2016. Aerobic training provides not only an effective way to lose weight, but to help the brain, heart, and rest of the body remain as healthy as possible.
