The second schedule allowed participants to consume food during a 12-hour window from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Overweight participants who fasted enjoyed higher levels of the satiety hormone peptide YY and lower levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin. They also felt fuller throughout the day and had a lower desire to eat. 

Additionally, the fasting plan improved metabolic flexibility, or when the body switches between burning carbs and fat for fuel. Overweight individuals typically have problems with their metabolisms.
