Does Eating Half Of The Food On Your Plate REALLY Help With Weight Loss?

You have probably heard the weight loss tip, “Eat only half of the food on your plate.” Yet does this tactic really work? Experts have weighed in (no pun intended) to determine if the trick will help your Phentermine 37.5mg efforts.

“Portion Distortion”

“‘Portion distortion’ is one of the leading causes behind weight gain and obesity,” says certified dietitian-nutritionist Lisa Moskovitz, R.D., CEO of NY Nutrition Group. “Whether it’s not understanding what a correct portion is or knowing what it is but not being able to control it, overeating is huge issue.”

Portion distortion can occur for any number of reasons, from eating in family-style restaurants with heaping bowls of food to consuming snacks “straight from the bag” to having your food served for you, such as at a fast food establishment or party.

“Considering at least 50 percent of the population dines out more than once a week, it’s fair to say that most of us don’t do so well with eating correct portion sizes,” Moskovitz says.

Keeping Yourself In Check

Registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Sonya Angelone stresses that people tend to eat all the food on the plates, whether portions are oversized or not. Splitting your meals in half is subsequently a good way to keep yourself in check, especially if eating restaurant food is a constant theme.

Food Quality

Eating half of your food may be a good way to lose weight, but it isn’t as important as the quality of your food. For example, consuming half of a cookie now and eating the other half tomorrow may be a way to cut calories, but it does nothing for you in terms of nutrients. Ensure your diet includes plenty of veggies, fruit, whole grains, and lean protein to provide your body with a variety of essential nutrients. Healthy weight loss is always best!
