A Global Epidemic? One In Five Deaths Around The World Linked To Poor Diet

According to research from the Global Burden of Disease study, which tracked diet trends around the globe from 1990 to 2017 in 195 countries, one in five deaths has to do with consuming the wrong foods. Poor diets high in sugar, starch, and processed foods contribute to weight gain among many other health problems, often resulting in shortened lifespans. Take a moment to learn about this study as part of your Phentermine 37.5mg-fueled weight loss program. The study was published in The Lancet.

About 11 Million Deaths

One in five deaths globally is the equivalent to about 11 million deaths according to the study. Diets low in fruits, nuts and seeds, and whole grains and high in red and processed meats, sugary drinks, and trans fat caused more deaths in 2017 than chronic diseases.

"This study affirms what many have thought for several years -- that poor diet is responsible for more deaths than any other risk factor in the world," noted study author Dr Christopher Murray, Director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, USA. "While sodium, sugar, and fat have been the focus of policy debates over the past two decades, our assessment suggests the leading dietary risk factors are high intake of sodium, or low intake of healthy foods, such as whole grains, fruit, nuts and seeds, and vegetables. The paper also highlights the need for comprehensive interventions to promote the production, distribution, and consumption of healthy foods across all nations."

Improving Diets Around The Globe

The study’s authors emphasize their findings as a call for coordinated global efforts regarding diet, such as making changes throughout sections of the food system and assorted policies surrounding balanced diets. Changes facilitate weight loss among other health improvements.
