5 foods to always avoid post-workout

While are plenty of foods you should eat after a workout to help your body repair itself, there are others you should avoid completely. These foods contain lots of sugar and or saturated fat in addition to being difficult to digest. Learn about five of these foods to avoid to help your Phentermine 37.5 mg efforts this new year.

Store-Bought Smoothies

Smoothies you get at the local juice bar or those you make yourself with mixes do not help you after a workout.

Your body burns through complex carbs and then fat. Drinking sugary drinks or snacks stops the fat burning process,” says Susan Albers, Psy.D of the Cleveland Clinic. “Make your own smoothies from scratch with a protein base. Drink slowly and mindfully!”

The sugary stuff is a huge post-workout no. It dehydrates you, something you do not need after a workout, and makes you feel bloated. Stick to water to give your body a much-needed dose of hydration once you finish working out.

Spicy Foods

Stay away from the hot stuff!

Your body just accomplished a major effort and is a state of repair,” says Michelle Neverusky, Fitness Manager of Carillon Miami Beach. “It needs things that are easy to digest, a little protein, a little sugar to bring your sugar levels back to an even keel, and mostly carbohydrates to replenish your energy levels.”

Fried Foods

Fried foods contain trans and saturated fats that slow down digestion, delaying the delivery of nutrients to sore muscles. Skip the French fries, mozzarella sticks, and other heavy, fattening stuff after your workouts, as they won’t make you feel good or help your body repair itself.

You may want to treat yourself after a workout, but chocolate is not the answer.

Avoid chocolate bars if you’re trying to lean down,” says Lola Berry, author of The Happy Cookbook. “Remember that training will have sped up your metabolism; use that to your advantage by keeping your diet super clean with whole foods.”
