3 keto diet dangers

The keto diet is among the latest low-carb, high-fat diet trends promising quick weight loss. Yet this diet comes with a number of dangers you should be aware of. If you are considering “going keto” as part of your Phentermine 37.5mg weight loss regimen, here’s what you need to know first:

You Might Get “Keto Flu”

The lack of carbs consumed on the keto diet causes the body to burn fat for fuel, or energy. This puts the body in a state of ketosis, often resulting in weight loss…and perhaps what is known as the “keto flu.”

“The keto flu is a very real side effect as the body transitions to a ketogenic diet,” says Suzanne Fisher, RD, LN. “Brain fog, fatigue, dizziness, and insomnia are common with the keto flu.”

It Can Cause Oxidative Stress

Iconic celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels calls the keto diet a “fad diet” that’s “unnecessary” for anyone with normal insulin levels. The reason the diet has gotten so much attention, she says, is because it helps regulate bodily insulin.

If you’re not eating a bunch of processed carbs and processed sugar and you’re not eating too much food in general, you won’t have insulin levels that are going through the roof,” she notes, adding that people may think, “‘Oh, I’m keto so I can eat whatever and I don’t count calories!'” when they are following this diet or a one that is similar: “Calorie management and calorie restriction is less oxidative stress, so it’s far better for aging and being healthier,” she says.

Keto Deprives You Of Important Foods

The keto diet is not a healthy option because you are not consuming the fruits and vegetables you require.

“Keto is not a great long-term diet, as it is not a balanced diet,” says Nancy Rahnama, MD, MS. “A diet that is devoid of fruit and vegetables will result in long-term micronutrient deficiencies that can have other consequences. The keto diet can be used for short-term fat loss, as long as it is under medical supervision.”
